DC's Titans TV show trailer introduces a very different, very violent Robin

The first look at Titans, the first original scripted series for DC's new streaming service, has finally dropped – and brought with it a much darker Dick Grayson.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge star Brenton Thwaites stars as the new Boy Wonder (aka Nightwing), but it isn't long before he shows how willing he is to break away from Batman by getting caught up in a very violent bad-guy takedown and shocking everyone with his reaction to the mention of his former mentor.

"Where's Batman?" one bad guy asks as Thwaites' Robin drops in and launches into a very brutal fight scene. "F**k Batman," he replies.

And, going by reactions on social media, it seems this more violent, potty-mouthed side to Dick Grayson has come as a bit of a surprise to many.

The Titans TV series follows a grown-up Dick Grayson as he becomes embroiled in a conspiracy along with a young girl called Rachel Roth (Teagan Croft), who's possessed by a strange darkness.

To stop the plot that threatens the entire planet, Dick and Rachel join forces with alien princess Koriand'r / Starfire (Anna Diop) and shape-shifting Garfield Logan / Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) to form an all-new superhero team known as the Titans.

Along with the trailer, DC also confirmed the cost of its new streaming service, with fans able to pre-order the app now with a yearly membership fee of $74.99, or $7.99 a month.

Titans, which will be overseen by Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti, will premiere on DC Universe later this year, with Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing following in 2019.
